Everything you need to know about our coaching programs
Common questions about beginning your journey with us
Rural Rise Coaching is designed specifically for entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners operating in rural areas of Malaysia. Our programs are ideal for:
We work with entrepreneurs of all ages, though many of our participants are between 25-45 years old. No formal business education is required - just commitment, coachability, and willingness to work hard.
No, you don't need a fully formed business idea to join our programs. We work with entrepreneurs at different stages:
If you have no idea yet: Our initial coaching sessions help you identify opportunities based on your skills, interests, resources, and local market needs. We use proven frameworks to help you discover viable business ideas.
If you have a rough idea: We help you validate the concept, refine it, and develop it into a concrete business plan with clear action steps.
If you have a solid idea: We focus on planning, launch strategy, and ensuring you have everything needed to start successfully.
That said, joining with at least a general direction (e.g., "I want to do something with organic farming" or "I'm interested in handicrafts") helps us personalize your coaching more quickly.
Several key differences set us apart:
We're not just teaching theory; we're partners in your entrepreneurial journey.
The application process is simple:
The entire process typically takes 1-2 weeks from initial contact to your first coaching session.

How coaching sessions work and what to expect
We offer a hybrid model to maximize flexibility and accessibility:
Online Sessions (Primary): Most one-on-one coaching sessions are conducted via Zoom or Google Meet. This allows us to serve entrepreneurs across Malaysia regardless of location. You'll need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with internet connection.
In-Person Options: For participants in Sabah, Sarawak, Kelantan, and selected other locations where we have offices, in-person sessions can be arranged (subject to schedule availability).
Group Workshops: Conducted online for national participation, with occasional regional in-person workshops announced in advance.
Hybrid Approach: Many participants prefer mostly online sessions with occasional in-person meetings during key milestones. We accommodate this where possible.
Online delivery has proven highly effective - our success rates are identical for online vs. in-person participants. The key is your commitment and engagement, not the delivery method.
Time commitment varies by program but generally includes:
Total: 10-15 hours per week on average.
This is flexible - you can work at your own pace between sessions. Some weeks you'll invest more time, others less. The key is consistency.
Most participants maintain jobs or other businesses while going through our program. We help you structure your time effectively to make progress without overwhelming your schedule.
We understand that life happens, especially for rural entrepreneurs managing multiple responsibilities.
Rescheduling Policy:
Extended Breaks: If you need to pause your program temporarily due to emergencies, illness, or major life events, contact us. We can freeze your program for up to 2 months and resume when you're ready.
Your success is our priority, so we work with you to ensure you complete your program successfully despite life's unpredictability.
Language should never be a barrier to entrepreneurial success.
Bahasa Malaysia: All our coaches are fluent in Bahasa Malaysia. We can conduct entire programs in BM if preferred.
Bilingual Approach: Many participants prefer a mix - some materials in English (especially business/technical terms), coaching conversations in BM.
Other Languages: We have coaches who speak Mandarin, Tamil, and several East Malaysian native languages. Let us know your language preference during consultation.
Written Materials: Our templates and guides are available in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.
The important thing is clear communication and understanding - we'll work in whatever language makes you most comfortable and confident.
What outcomes you can expect from our programs
We're honest: No one can guarantee business success. Entrepreneurship involves inherent risks, and outcomes depend significantly on factors beyond coaching - market conditions, your effort, execution quality, and sometimes luck.
What we CAN guarantee:
Our Track Record: 85% of program participants successfully launch their businesses and remain operational after 12 months. This is significantly higher than the general small business success rate.
Success Depends On You: The entrepreneurs who succeed are those who implement what they learn, remain coachable, persist through challenges, and put in the work required. We provide the roadmap and guidance; you drive the vehicle.
If you're willing to do your part, we'll do everything in our power to help you succeed.
Timeline varies based on starting point and business type:
Immediate Benefits (Weeks 1-4):
Early Wins (Months 2-3):
Significant Progress (Months 4-6):
Sustainable Business (Months 8-12):
Most participants in comprehensive program reach profitability within 8-10 months. Service-based businesses often see results faster than product-based businesses requiring inventory and production setup.
Your relationship with Rural Rise doesn't end when your program concludes:
Alumni Network: Join our active community of 250+ program graduates. This network provides ongoing peer support, collaboration opportunities, and knowledge sharing.
Continued Resource Access: Lifetime access to all templates, guides, and tools provided during your program, plus updates and new resources we develop.
Alumni Workshops: Quarterly workshops on advanced topics open to all program graduates (minimal fee to cover costs).
Check-In Sessions: Complimentary 30-minute check-in with your coach at 3, 6, and 12 months post-program to review progress and provide guidance.
Priority Status: Alumni get priority scheduling and discounted rates (15-20% off) if you want additional coaching or want to add another program module.
Success Spotlight: High-performing alumni may be featured in our case studies, providing publicity for your business.
We're invested in your long-term success, not just getting you through the program. Many of our most successful entrepreneurs maintain relationships with us for years.
Not every business idea succeeds - that's the reality of entrepreneurship. But even "failures" provide valuable learning.
Pivot Support: If market testing reveals your original idea isn't viable, we help you pivot to a better opportunity based on what you learned. Many successful businesses started as something else.
Fail Fast, Learn Faster: Part of our coaching is helping you test assumptions quickly with minimal investment, so if an idea won't work, you discover it early before investing heavily.
Transferable Skills: Even if a specific business doesn't succeed, you've gained planning, marketing, financial, and leadership skills applicable to any future venture.
Try Again: Many successful entrepreneurs had previous attempts that didn't work. Alumni who want to try new business ideas can re-enroll at significantly discounted rates.
Our goal is helping you build a successful business, whether that's your first idea or one you pivot to along the way. We're partners in figuring out what works.
Logistical questions about technology and requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Helpful But Optional:
If you can make video calls and send WhatsApp messages, you have everything you need. We keep technology requirements simple because we know many rural areas have limited connectivity.
Don't have reliable internet? Let us know - we can adapt by using more phone calls and WhatsApp-based support.
No, you don't need startup capital before joining our program. In fact, we help you determine how much capital you actually need and how to access it.
During Coaching, We Help You:
Many participants start businesses with RM5,000 or less by beginning small and reinvesting profits. Others need RM20,000-50,000 for equipment or inventory - we help you create realistic plans and access appropriate funding.
The coaching investment itself is separate from startup capital. Think of coaching as investing in knowledge and skills that dramatically increase your chances of success regardless of how much startup capital you have.
Absolutely! Many of our most successful participants maintained jobs while building their businesses through our program.
Benefits of Starting While Employed:
How We Accommodate Working Participants:
You'll need to invest 10-15 hours per week outside your job, which usually means evenings and weekends. It's challenging but absolutely doable with proper time management, which we help you develop.
Many participants eventually transition to full-time entrepreneurship once their business reaches sufficient income, but there's no pressure to quit your job before you're ready.
Yes, legal and regulatory compliance is part of our comprehensive coaching.
What We Provide:
What We Don't Do: We don't act as your agent or complete registrations on your behalf (that requires legal licensing we don't have). However, we guide you through the process so you can do it yourself or know exactly what to ask if you hire help.
For complex situations requiring legal or accounting professionals, we can recommend trusted practitioners familiar with rural businesses.
The goal is ensuring your business starts on solid legal ground, avoiding problems later.
